How Fire Changed Downtown Saratoga Springs
Great fires in Saratoga Springs have destroyed property, taken lives and created gaping holes in the cityscape. Entire blocks were lost due to massive and uncontrollable conflagrations. This exhibit focuses on four areas of the city and some of the most its most infamous fires. It analyzes the impact they had on the city and its people. This exhibition tells a story of not only devastation, but of re-birth and perseverance. $5. Adults, $4 Seniors & Students. Under 12 Free. Mon – Sat 10 am – 4 pm, Sun 1 - 4 pm. Historical Society of Saratoga Springs. Canfield Casino. 518-584-6920.
“Today, Saratoga is again proudly strutting its stuff as a resort hot spot in upstate New York. In warm months, Saratoga hits high stride with the advent of 6 weeks of horse racing at one of the world's prettiest tracks, public parks in full bloom, and an enviable offering of culture, with both the New York City Ballet and Philadelphia Orchestra in summer residence. Horse-mad, cigar-smoking track bettors mingle with urban sophisticates in designer outfits at outdoor cocktail parties, while families hit the trails in Saratoga State Spa Park and soak up classical music concerts and outdoor picnics.” Frommers.
