There are close to a dozen golf courses within 10 miles of The Gideon Putnam. You have the opportunity to test your game on a PGA-level track or hone your short game on an Executive course.

According to Katharine Dyson, special contributor to Golf Advisor, "Saratoga Springs is catnip to golfers with a good mix of historic and modern. Prices are a pleasant surprise, too, with greens fees typically around $50."

One of the finest courses in the area is right here in Saratoga Spa State Park and a short walk or ride from The Gideon Putnam. Saratoga Spa Course has been rated four stars by Golf Digest and in the July 2012 issue was listed as one of the top ten courses under $55.00.

Saratoga National Golf Club gets a lot of love from local golfers and visitors alike. This is a PGA-level course, picturesque and challenging. With a Slope of 143 and rating of 74.3, your round at Saratoga National is one that you will remember. The clubhouse facility, Prime at Saratoga National, is a beautiful place to relax after your round. You will even find many locals who don't golf enjoying the food, beverage, and ambiance at Prime at Saratoga National.

Yet another is semi-private McGregor Links Country Club, a historic course built in 1921 and designed by Devereux Emmet. This is a classic links-style course kept in excellent condition and promising an enjoyable round at 6,629 yards from the longest tees. Over the years, celebrities of many types have chosen McGregor Links as their course they want to play when they visit Saratoga Springs.

These are only a few of the courses in close proximity to The Gideon Putnam; others include the legendary Sagamore Golf Course designed by Donald Ross (about 40 minutes away), and the surprising Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course designed by Robert Trent Jones.
