Mineral baths at the Roosevelt Baths & SpaDiscover the Roosevelt Baths, a historic New York hydrotherapy spa, and one of the only places on Earth where gravity can be lifted away from you, taking with it your worries, aches and pains.

To ensure our guests' privacy, each bath is set up for individual use.

Our Saratoga Springs hydrotherapy spa staff has been trained to draw the mineral baths to the proper temperature (97-100 degrees) by adding a minimal amount of hot, fresh water to the natural, cold mineral water. Any deviation may cause dizziness and excessive perspiration.

Mineral Baths

Have a lovely soak in our New York hydrotherapy spa's naturally effervescent mineral waters. Offered individually for 40 minutes or before any treatment for 20 minutes, guests are encouraged to relax and experience this legendary Upstate New York hydrotherapy at their leisure.

Please schedule your hydrotherapy treatment prior to your arrival.

Delicious Waters

Different beneficial effects were attributed to the waters of the various springs: Geyser increased appetite, aided digestion and replenished salts lost in the body through perspiration and therefore had strong laxative effects. The excess carbon dioxide gas from this spring relieved sinus congestion when inhaled. Orenda spring is similar in content to Coesa, and was used both as a laxative and an antacid. Orenda also boasts one of the highest potassium iodide contents of the Saratoga waters. Scientists at the Simon Baruch Research Institute believed that it was possible to inhale the daily iodine requirement at this spring.

Of the many springs in the area, only three were offered for consumption at the Drink Hall. These were Geyser, Coesa and Hathorn. These waters, along with the fresh water State Seal were bottled at the bottling plant until 1970. The Bottling Plant was renovated in 2000 and now houses the Saratoga Automobile Museum.

Healing Bubbles

Bathing in the mineral springs is a practice still enjoyed today. While drinking the waters was known to help with gastrointestinal problems, bathing was thought to treat heart disease and arthritis. Scientists believed that the bubbles in the mineral water dilated blood vessels and improved a patient's circulation. In the 1940's, a three-week stay at the Spa was considered the norm and included 21 mineral baths, accessory treatments, regulated diet, rest, exercise, and recreation. Today, mineral baths and other spa services are still offered at the historic Roosevelt Bathhouse.
